“Bum-rush the Show” is Radio Raheem’s reincarnated boom box from the Spike Lee’s landmark film Do The Right Thing. In the movie, Radio Rhaeem’s character carries the oversized Super Jumbo boom box, blasting Public Enemy’s Fight The Power, a Black Power anthem commissioned for the movie by Lee. The cassette player is dramatically smashed in the film, representing the oppression and styphling of the Black culture. “Bum-rush” presents an alternative outcome from the movie - one of hope and vitality.
The first piece the artist created from cardboard, which set off his inclination to create hand-made versions of objects with a story. This piece is actual size, an oddity.

This Beastie Boys tribute piece is actually 3 paintings in one. The base painting of the album, a neon pink stenciled overlay, and finally a pointillist over-painting on top of the stencil. The result is a fever dream version of the iconic License to Ill album art. In addition to the painting complexity, the piece has a record with wood-burned grooves (every single one!) that slides out on rails, providing the work with a kinetic surprise element.
Art is in the details. Mix Tape #3 is the evolved cousin of the first two oversized mix tapes, and features a hip-hop playlist fashioned to resemble graffiti street art. The play list represents the songs that define the early years of hip-hop and has many of the artist’s favorites along with standards from the genre. The tape stock is intentionally disruptive and actually has neon red / pink paint that can be illuminated with black light to take the piece to another visual level.
